Our views on Conservatism...

First, human nature is continuous; we are not merely creatures that take on the characteristics of the civilization in which we find ourselves.

Second, there are natural rights, or rights that are necessary for beings to flourish because of our steadfast human nature.

Thirdly, governments are established, as stated in the declaration, in order to "secure" - the word "secure" being the most crucial — those rights that exist independently of governments.

Additionally, the structure of government must be such that, in the Madisonian view, it is powerful enough to defend our liberties but not so powerful as to jeopardize them.

James Madison, the fourth President of the United States and the primary author of the Constitution, drafted it with the intention of dividing and limiting governmental power in order to safeguard our freedom and fundamental rights.

The Declaration of Independence serves as a reminder that we should base our actions on the tenets that individual rights to life and liberty are inalienable and that the primary responsibility of the state is to defend those rights in civil society.

The Declaration of Indepence makes clear, the Constitution, with its separation of powers and checks and balances, developed a framework of government meant to defend those rights and to maintain a boundary between public and private matters.

These ideals that have underpinned a free and thriving nation have been weakened by the welfare state and the overgrown federal apparatus that have been created. Government activities, expenditures, and the amount of mental bandwidth devoted to politics are all excessively high.

That won't do...
