Tim Kaine Credit’s Obama For Russian Ceasefire

Virginia Governor Tim Kaine desperately needs to come back to reality. Speaking on Fox News yesterday, Kaine credited Obama for Russia’s agreement to a ceasefire:

“The Senator’s goal was to be tough and smart,” Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine said of Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, “and so when the action (in Georgia) happened on Thursday, he immediately called for a ceasefire, condemned the unwarranted use of force by Russia. It was a bad crisis for the world. It required tough words, but also a smart approach to call on the international community to step in — and I’m very, very happy that the senator’s request for a ceasefire has been complied with by President Medvedev.”

As I pointed out Monday, it was McCain who had initially condemned the unwarranted use of for by Russia, while Obama asked both sides to show restraint. Kaine says it required “tough words”, yet fails to acknowledge that Obama’s words were not tough until he mimicked those of McCain.

P.S. Those “tough words” do not seem to be much of a deterrence to the Russians who continue to converge on the capital in violation of the cease fire agreement.
