Lefties Claim Malkin Hannity and Limbaugh to Blame For Shooting

It has become commonplace in the leftist blogsphere to replace most human emotions with hatred. Wether they are taking pity on those without health care, those who are being foreclosed on, or those who are the victim of a crime, liberals seem to have difficulty displaying any emotion other than hatred towards those they believe are responsible. The shooting of Arkansas Democratic Chairman Bill Gwatney today is no exception.

For starters I would like to offer my condolences to the family and friends of Bill Gwatney, and hope he is able to pull through. It is always tragic when an innocent person falls victim to violence, however it is equally as tragic when that violence is met with hatred, not towards the assailant, but towards a broad group of people whom happen to disagree with your ideology.

Take for example an e-mail received by Michelle Malkin today:

Greg Cancilla artvandelay3@verizon.net

Once again the hate you and folks like Hannity spew has caused another right wing nut to resort to violence. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26181389/ What you do is nothing less than starting a riot and you should be held accountable. You should be in jail. Your hate turns people to murder.

Notice the emailer claims it was Michelle’s hate which turned this person to violence, yet as of 3:30 pm while I am writing this, police have not so much as released the suspects name, much less his motive. Where then would Greg come to the conclusion that this was a politically motivated attack, brought forward due to the words of Michelle Malkin, or Sean Hannity then?

You only need to look as far as the prominent lefty blogs for that answer. Roughly half of commenter’s on this DailyKos diary entry even remarked on the victim himself, they seemed more interested in crucifying Limbaugh, Hannity and O’Reilly:

“More White Male Right Wing Terrorism”

“Limbaugh induced violence already happened in Kentucky last month. Looks like the crazies are ramping it up.”

“Probably another Republinut Hannity Limbaugh”

“Time to Fight Right Wing Terrorism
We all know that this will turn out to be another right winger just as we saw in Oklahoma and Tennessee. Face it, the United States is indeed threatened by violent terrorrists. It is time for the government to take action against the Republicans and violent right wing groups that support them.

The Democratic adminstration will have to detain these violent, enemy combatants and utilize enhanced interrogation techniques to force them to reveal others who are willing to engage in the fight against the United States. It will be necessary to infiltrate right wing groups (such as the Republican party) in order to identify those who must be surveilled. We can watch over Christian book stores, state and county Republican Headquarters as well as McCain campaign headquarters to identify these hidden terrorists. We can use Republican donor lists to identify those whose phone calls, mail and e-mail should be routinely searched.

Indeed, we need to build a prison just like GITMO to house those who the president believes to be involved with right wing terrorist activities. Indeed, funding to such terrorist organizations as the Republican party should be prohibited and those involved with the terrorist organization banned from voting, occupying government employment or running for office.

Yes, let them have a taste of their own medicine.”

“I will be looking to see if shooter is/was talk radio rightwing nut.

This is my current “default option” for “why did this happen” to people in the way of the GOP.

Sue me for thinking this - It’s become a pattern and these rats are against a wall.

I expect MORE of this because I think this is what rightwing talk radio is supposed to accomplish.”

“This is the result of giving respect and air time to people like Rush Limbaugh, who preach hate in the guise of moral superiority.

Also, we should be calling these people what they are: terrorists… terrorists who hate half of this country.”

“How many more of us have to be murdered by republican sacks of crap?”

A quick browse of the comments reveals similar assumptions from Kossacks that the shooting was politically motivated, and you can almost feel them salivating over the prospect of being able to use this incident to further the “progressive” cause. The sad fact is that their comments represent the hate they “believe” Hannity and Limbaugh are guilty of, as they pronounce their hatred for a vast group of people whose only crime is to disagree with them politically.

It is very possible, indeed it is likely that the shooter was a former employee of Mr. Gwatney. Early reports indicated the suspect said something about losing his job prior to shooting, and Mr. Gwatney is the owner of several car dealerships. I would not be surprised to find that the shooter was a former employee of Mr. Gwatney and was disgruntled that he was let go. While that does not excuse his actions by any means, those who would politicize this event for their own selfish benefit, even before all the facts are known should not be excused either.

  1. Blaming every “Lefty” for the misguided postings of a few people is the same thing as casting blame upon every right winger for the intolerance that spawned the recent spate of politically motivated murders.

Frankly, I am sick of all of the divisiveness in the media, on the Internet and in Politics, it does nothing to enhance us as a people, as a nation. Whenever I hear a talk show on the radio where the host yells and screams about a group of people, I turn it off. If I see a TV show where the theme is to denigrate one side or the other, I find another channel. It matters little if what is being screamed about is of a “Lefty or Righty” persuasion. If it creates an unneeded division, I want NOTHING to do with it.

Although I am in the minority, I feel I can create a difference in this nation by my actions, by simply being consistently closed off to hatred and intolerance. As a US Navy Vet, I earned the right to live in country free of hatred and division, I EARNED it. Wanna try it?

  2. RW, I agree with you wholeheartedly. My point was not to blame leftists for hatred, I am fully aware that hatred and dvisiveness know no political affiliation. What I was trying to point out was the hypocrisy of some on the left who decry conservatives that call liberals evil, yet they retaliate by calling conservatives evil.

  3. Child out of wedlock what a disgrace. Unless it the daughter of the VP candidate, then its not Ok but still good if she keeps the baby. TALK about a hippocrite, Rush is a Hippo Hippocrate and a lier and a druggy. Who listens to this sorry excuse for a human being anymore???

  4. Robert, before you leave comments on my blog, please read the article you are responding to. I have several articles here to which you could have made an asinine remark about Palin’s daughters situation. Why choose a completely unrelated topic?

However since you wish to bring up parents and such, how about we take a look at Obama’s father who had abandoned him. Obama does not correct people when he is classified as an African American, yet he tries to downplay the fact that his African American father played little to no role in his upbringing. The one time he made mention of the need for African American fathers to be more of a part of their children’s lives, Jesse Jackson said he wanted to cut off his balls for talking down to black people.

When you bring up the role of parenting, you only serve to hurt liberals who believe that the actions of children are the fault of the government and not the parent. Yes Sarah Palins daughter made an error in judgment, along with her boyfriend, but they intend to accept the error of their ways, as opposed to trying to erase it.

When you call Rush a hypocrite (P.S. that is how it is spelled), you only show your own ignorance. Palin is a pro life candidate, and she proved it by choosing to bear a child with downs syndrome. Now her daughter at the age of 17 is not only having a child, but marrying the father. Those are the ideals she believes in and that is what she has instilled in her daughter. There is nothing hypocritical about it.

Eventually when you move out of your parents house, you will realize the world is more complicated than the television set in front of you. At that point I can only hope you will not be faced with the tough decisions the Palin family has had to make over the course of the last year. However if you do face those decision, I have the feeling you would not have the maturity, nor independence to make the choice they have made.

Much like Barack Obama, you feel an unintended pregnancy is a mistake which should be erased rather than Sarah Palins view that a child is a blessing from God. Imagine if Barack Obama’s mother had held the same view as her son once she realized the mistake she had made!
