Obama Moving From Left To Right
Although Barack Obama will never admit it, he has been trying very diligently to move to the right on most major issues. From his recent support of FISA, to his acknowledgement that Iran does indeed pose a threat to the western world, Obama is attempting to rid himself of the “most liberal Senator” label which he once proudly accepted.
Just yesterday to the surprise of many Conservatives, Obama announced his support of the Supreme Court’s ruling that the Second Amendment grants an individual right to own a gun. Despite his refusal to sign a friend of the court briefing along with John McCain and about 50 other Senators, Senator Obama declared yesterday he has always believed in an individual right to own a gun. This caught some journalists by surprise, considering he had previously stated that he supported the D.C. gun ban, and believed it to be Constitutional.
During that interview on February 11, 2008, Obama was confronted with his position on the D.C. handgun ban, and you can clearly hear him saying “Right” when it was mentioned that he supports the ban, and again when it is mentioned that he believes it is Constitutional. While some will call this another of Obama’s “flip flops”, I prefer to call it politics as usual.
During that interview in February, he was running for the Democratic nomination and making a strong effort to paint himself as being to Hillary’s left in order to gain the liberal vote. He is now in a position where he will need to gain the support of moderate Republicans in order to win States like Florida, Ohio and Michigan. As such he has recently began doing what politicians have been doing since the beginning of time, and that is telling the voters what they want to hear.
While I can’t fault him for his policy changes, as I have seen others do, I can fault him for running on a platform of “change”, when he has consistently proven the only thing he will actually change is his mind.
