Clinton Supporters Fight To Deny Delegates Being Seated
Early tomorrow morning the Democratic National Committee’s rules and bylaws panel is set to meet to discuss what to do with the delegates from Florida and Michigan. Clintons campaign has repeatedly said that all delegates should be seated to insure that all votes are counted. The seating of delegates for Florida and Michigan would be beneficial to the Clinton campaign leaving many under the assumption that Clinton supporters are fighting in order to help their candidate win, not because they care about the integrity of the Democratic process. That assumption has now been proven correct!
Yesterday the StarTelegram reported that Clinton supporters in Texas advocated for the unseating of ALL Democratic delegates from Collin County because their senate district conventions were held on the wrong day.
Officials with the Collin County Democratic Party said they chose to hold the convention a day late because there wasn’t a large enough venue in the county available for the scheduled date of Saturday, March 29. Party officials warned at the time that the eligibility of their delegation may be challenged.
Frederick Barrow, an Obama supporter who chaired the Collin County credentials committee, alleged that Clinton supporters were only trying to unseat the delegation because Obama won more delegates from Collin County.
Clinton supporters said state law required that senate district conventions be held on Saturday, March 29.
“What is troubling me…is that it seems to me that this rule is crystal clear,” said Martha Smiley, a Clinton supporter on the state party’s credentials committee.
While the rule may be “crystal clear”, this situation in no way differs from the current situation with regards to Florida and Michigan. This challenge from Clinton supporters passes way beyond hypocrisy and into the realm of stupidity as Obama supporters will surely use this as evidence during tomorrow’s hearing, stating that delegates from Florida and Michigan should not be seated due to their violation of the rules.
