You Want These People In Charge Of Your Health?

While liberals generally feel that health insurance is a “right” and should be provided by the government, conservatives have looked at other government run programs and realized that the federal government is too incompetent to be put in charge of something as important as health care. Today we get a reminder from Kentucky as to why the federal government should not be responsible for covering Americans health care costs, as we once again see how wonderfully FEMA works.

The mayor of Hawesville has been ordered by FEMA to have the Ohio River flood wall inspected and certified.

While the city has enough money to cover to cost in budget, a loop hole only allows for federal funds to be used for the inspection. And, if the inspection isn’t completed residents may have to pay for flood insurance.

The Army Corp of Engineers says the money has to come from a federal grant but there isn’t a federal grant available.

This is a town which has cash reserves and is capable of paying for the inspection on their own, but due to poor legislation they are told they cannot. Only a government run program could be so inept as to mandate inspections be done, further mandate they must be done with government money, then fail to appropriate money for that purpose. Before you say this couldn’t, or wouldn’t happen with Nationalized Health Care, this again!

The United States National Health Insurance Act has among its provisions:

  • Sec 102(c) No Cost-Sharing- No deductibles, co-payments, coinsurance, or other cost-sharing shall be imposed with respect to covered benefits.
  • Sec. 104(a): “In General- It is unlawful for a private health insurer to sell health insurance coverage that duplicates the benefits provided under this Act”.

Much like the way the government has mandated only federal funds be used for flood wall inspections, the National Health Insurance Act would have a similar mandate. The government would mandate that only federal funds be used to cover health care costs, then hope that there are sufficient funds allocated to cover those costs. Sounds wonderful, doesn’t it?
