Dumb Quote of the Week
I haven’t posted a “Dumb Quote of the Week” in quite some time, not because there haven’t been any mind you, I have just been to lazy I suppose. With that in mind I would like to thank Albert R. Hunt for helping to rejuvenate this one time reader favorite, as he has reminded me why I had started this category in the first place. In his article today titled “Obama’s Tired Campaign Needs Victory, New Life” Mr. Hunt while shilling for Obama, manages to say something so utterly absurd I am surprised it made it past the editors (Oh he is the editor, that explains it then!).
I’ll skip through all of the “Obama is great” drivel and get right to the heart of it:
There may have been some element of racism among these culturally conservative voters, who support Democrats if they think the politician is strong and empathetic toward their struggles; Obama appeared neither.
This is where I start to ponder if I am cut out to be a political writer. I tend to use argumentation when having a political discussion which leaves me at somewhat of a disadvantage due to my uncontrollable urge to actually make sense. I have a tendency to break down statements as I hear them and look at them logically. For instance, when reading the above paragraph I notice the author has placed his conclusion before his facts, so I know I must therefore work backwards to decipher how he came to his conclusion. This is how it went:
- Obama does not appear to be either strong or empathetic to culturally conservative voters
- Culturally conservative support Democrats who appear strong and empathetic to their struggles
- Culturally conservative voters did not support Obama
- Culturally conservative voters did not support Obama because they are racists!
HUH???!! Here you have an editor at Bloomberg citing an element of racism as an explanation of an Obama loss, while in the next breath explaining the Obama loss had nothing to do with race. The logic defies me.
