John Dingell Withdraws Carbon Tax Bill

I spend most of my time writing here about the failures of our Congress, and generally speaking their failures lie in their over legislating, not under legislating. Rep John Dingell (D-Mich.) apparantly learned the hazards of over legislating and withdrawn his bill to institute a carbon tax.

House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman John Dingell (D-Mich.) said Tuesday that he is no longer contemplating a “carbon tax” as a way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

“Times have changed; our economy has taken a hard downward turn and now is not the time for us to put any additional financial burden on the working families of Michigan or this nation,” Dingell said.

Was this a common sense decision coming from John Dingell? My guess is no. In all likelihood this was more of a political move to avoid instituting a new tax in an election year. Look forward to this bill resurfacing again next year, but for now Americans are safe from this pointless tax.
