Florida To Go On Record As Having The Dumbest Teens
Will drinking a shot of Mountain Dew stop a pregnancy?
- A)Yes
- B)No
If you answered B, congratulations you are one of the lucky few who have been instilled with some form of common sense. If you answered A, you are most likely from Florida!
A recent survey that found some Florida teens believe drinking a cap of bleach will prevent HIV and a shot of Mountain Dew will stop pregnancy has prompted lawmakers to push for an overhaul of sex education in the state.
The survey showed that Florida teens also believe that smoking marijuana will prevent a person from getting pregnant.
State lawmakers said the myths are spreading because of Florida’s abstinence-only sex education
I would love to see the exact phrasing of this study, as I would not be surprised to find out this survey was conducted with the intention of proving the abstinence-only sex education was ineffective. While I am not an advocate of abstinence only education in schools, I am an advocate of abstinence first education. Students should certainly be informed that drinking bleach will not prevent them from contracting HIV, however I believe the education they receive beyond that could be limited to a simple sentence “There is no full proof way to avoid contracting HIV other than abstinence”.
Of course lawmakers immediately turn to public education as being the cause of mass ignorance amongst the State’s teens, but can we really place the blame solely on the shoulders of the schools? In recent years parents have become spectators in their children’s lives, operating under the assumption that the State would raise them properly. This unfortunately has been widely accepted among the left, with all failures of the children being blamed on the State rather than placing the blame where it belongs… the parents!
Ignorance may be bliss, but it can also be deadly.
