Howard Dean Endores McCain
As highly unlikely as it is, it appears Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean has thrown his support behind John McCain. Asked to explain his support of the Republican candidate, Dean had this to say:
“The real issue is this,” Dean said “Who would you rather have in charge of the defense of the United States of America, a group of people who never served a day overseas in their life, or a guy who served his country honorably and has three Purple Hearts and a Silver Star on the battlefields of Vietnam?”
Howard Dean misspoke slightly while praising McCain’s medals eared while in the military. John McCain was awarded Silver Star, the Legion of Merit, two Bronze Star Medals, a Purple Heart and the Distinguished Flying Cross.
Oh wait, that is what Dean had said about John Kerry in 2004, here is how Dean feels about McCain:
“While we honor McCain’s military service, the fact is Americans want a real leader who offers real solutions, not a blatant opportunist who doesn’t understand the economy and is promising to keep our troops in Iraq for 100 years.”
The words “blatant opportunist” would have been much more fitting for John Kerry who would have been largely unknown had it not been for his testimony in front of Congress disparaging American soldiers.
When he [Kerry] returned from Vietnam, he slandered his fellow veterans as vicious murderers and rapists. Decades later, when he thought it would be to his political advantage, he tried to hype himself as a hero, and then slandered the veterans who called attention to this inconsistency.
It is somewhat curious however that Howard Dean felt that the most important qualification 4 years ago was military service, yet now he considers a war hero an opportunist.
