Dems To Get Tougher on Immigration
The Huffington Post today has a very interesting headline, “Confidential Study Suggests Tougher Words For Dems On Immigration“. Of course tougher words does not necessarily mean tougher actions so the conclusion of the study is really meaningless. What is curious about the study however, aside from the fact that it was supposedly confidential yet is plastered all over the internet, is exactly how they propose for the Democrats to “get tough”.
The study urges Democrats to adopt more rigid rhetoric when discussing immigration by encouraging office-holders to emphasize “requiring immigrants to become legal” rather than stressing border enforcement and the opening of a path to legalization for the undocumented already here.
We are all aware how fond Democrats are of government mandates, but the idea of requiring illegal’s to become legal as a means of being “tough on immigration” is downright laughable. This “study” was conducted by Coalition for Comprehensive Immigration Reform and the Center for American Progress, and the committee was chaired by Cecilia Muñoz, senior vice president of policy at the National Council of La Raza so the results should not be too surprising.
What is surprising is that this study was conducted completely under the delusion that the American people would accept amnesty without border enforcement. George Bush’s immigration bill was written under this same delusion and was quickly shot down by the American people as being unacceptable. Any future discussions with regards to illegal immigration would need to start at the border and how to prevent future illegal’s from coming in.
