After his weak showing in South Carolina, Fred Thompson has decided to face the inevitable. To the dismay of Conservatives across America, he was not going to be chosen as the Republican nominee for President.

Today I have withdrawn my candidacy for President of the United States. I hope that my country and my party have benefited from our having made this effort. Jeri and I will always be grateful for the encouragement and friendship of so many wonderful people.

It is a sad day for those of us who believed Senator Thompson was the only candidate worth voting for, however the true sadness will not set in until tommorrow. Tommorrow morning we will wake up and find ourselves in the precarious position of choosing to once again vote under the “lesser of two evils” premise, or not voting at all. I am hoping all Fred supporters choose the former, because as bad as the remaining group of Republican candidates looks, they all look substantially better than Clinton or Obama.
