More Inconvenient Truths For Al Gore
Last week Al Gore visited the tropical paradise which saw thousands of diplomats and other self important hypocrites arrive in their private jets to speak about the disaster that was the Kyoto Treaty. While most sane minded individuals would recognize the failures of Kyoto, the Bali conference was not there to address those problems. The purpose was to create new restrictions coinciding with new taxes levied on countries which failed to meet those restriction. In short, these world leaders were holding a fund raiser for “developing countries” at the expense of wealthier nations.
Under the guise of saving the planet, the eco fascists in Bali have given most Americans reason to lift an eyebrow and wonder as to their true intentions. Emma Brindal, a climate justice campaigner coordinator for Friends of the Earth proudly stated “A climate change response must have at its heart a redistribution of wealth and resources”. The Kyoto Protocol which will soon be expiring had, at its heart, this very principle.
Last month it was announced that Japan, Italy and Spain face fines of as much as $33 billion combined for failing to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions as promised under the Kyoto treaty. Global Warming alarmists will continue to proclaim that these fines are a necessary evil, and should be expanded to more countries including the United States. What they will not tell you is how disastrous the results achieved from the treaty. Just yesterday it was announced that Norway, who was a signer of the Kyoto Treaty, watched their carbon emissions rise 80% from 1990 to 2004.
Kimberly Strassel wrote an editorial recently which summarized the results:
Under the vaunted Kyoto, from 2000 to 2004, Europe managed to increase its emissions by 2.3 percentage points over 1995 to 2000. Only two countries are on track to meet targets. There’s rampant cheating, and endless stories of how select players are self-enriching off the government “market” in C02 credits. Meanwhile, in the U.S., under the president’s oh-so-unserious plan, U.S. emissions from 2000 to 2004 were eight percentage points lower than in the prior period.
Al Gore, who was either completely ignorant to these results, or hoping the American people would be, had this to say at Bali “I am not an official of the United States and I am not bound by the diplomatic niceties. So I am going to speak an inconvenient truth. My own country, the United States, is principally responsible for obstructing progress here in Bali. We all know that.”
The above statement echoes what many other countries also were saying. Much like Democrats here in America blame the rich for the ills of the poor, world leaders take a similar stance on global issues, blaming the United States (”the rich”) as being obstructionists. The inconvenient truth for Al Gore however, is the President Bush’s energy policy has proven to be far superior to the failed Kyoto Treaty which he tried to push through the Senate in 1997.
Like seemingly every other instance of governmental bodies passing legislation to curb certain behaviors, Kyoto was a complete and utter failure.
