New Study Suggests Global Warming Part of Natural Cycle
“Our research demonstrates that the ongoing rise of atmospheric CO2 has only a minor influence on climate change. We must conclude, therefore, that attempts to control CO2 emissions are ineffective and pointless — but very costly.” This is the conclusion reached in a new study printed in the International Journal of Climatology of the Royal Meteorological Society. David H. Douglass (of the University of Rochester), professor John R. Christy (of the University of Alabama), Benjamin D. Pearson and professor S. Fred Singer (of the University of Virginia) reported that observed patterns of temperature changes (”fingerprints”) over the last 30 years disagree with what greenhouse models predict and can better be explained by natural factors, such as solar variability.
According to Dr. Douglass: “The observed pattern of warming, comparing surface and atmospheric temperature trends, does not show the characteristic fingerprint associated with greenhouse warming. The inescapable conclusion is that the human contribution is not significant and that observed increases in carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases make only a negligible contribution to climate warming.”
And the third co-author, Dr. S. Fred Singer, said: “The current warming trend is simply part of a natural cycle of climate warming and cooling that has been seen in ice cores, deep-sea sediments, stalagmites, etc., and published in hundreds of papers in peer-reviewed journals.
“The mechanism for producing such cyclical climate changes is still under discussion; but they are most likely caused by variations in the solar wind and associated magnetic fields that affect the flux of cosmic rays incident on the earth’s atmosphere.
“In turn, such cosmic rays are believed to influence cloudiness and thereby control the amount of sunlight reaching the earth’s surface and thus the climate.
Obviously this new study will not cause anyone to second guess the consensus opinion declared by Al Gore who begs for new taxes to be bestowed on us. I have written in the past likening the Global Warming debate to a religious debate, with neither side being able to conclusively prove they are correct, while at the same time refusing to concede any points to the other side of the argument.
In the name of compromise I am willing to concede two points to the Global Warming alarmists, and all I ask is one concession in return. The two points I will concede:
- The Earths temperature has risen modestly over the course of the last few centuries
- Emissions from power plants and automobiles have a negative affect on our environment
What I ask in return from alarmists who wish to have a serious discussion regarding Global Warming is for them to concede that maybe humans are not the cause. Mind you I am not asking for you to abandon your beliefs altogether, simply keep an open mind and look at all of the data available. Listen to the hundreds of scientists who disagree with the “consensus” and ask yourself if maybe world government are jumping to conclusions. Think for a moment as you should when any new tax is proposed, who actually benefits from the increased revenue, and where will that money be spent? These are the issues that have so many conservatives fighting the ‘consensus’ tooth and nail. As I wrote in the past:
Sphere: Related ContentFor those of you who believe in your heart of hearts that you have the power to change the world, and are determined to do your part, I say good for you! By all means walk instead of drive, live in a dimly lit home, only travel when necessary, and buy as many carbon credits as you can afford. The rest of us however will continue to fight the propaganda machine which will inevitably lead to more taxes, and more Government spending.
