Having Children a Selfish Act?
If you browse the internet long enough, you eventually will encounter every type of nut, loon, and wacko out there. Generally those types are reserved for the blogsphere as the mainstream media largely ignores them, for obvious reasons. Every once in a while however, you will encounter a story in the press which helps to illustrate why these types are ignored. The Daily Mail has profiled two women who believe that having children is a selfish act, and contributes to the destruction of the planet.
As you read through the article it is easy to become saddened, first when you realize this article is not satire meant to poke fun at the global warming alarmists, and again once you realize there are probably many others who agree with this warped view of reality.
Because when Toni terminated her pregnancy, she did so in the firm belief she was helping to save the planet.
“Having children is selfish. It’s all about maintaining your genetic line at the expense of the planet,” says Toni, 35.
“Every person who is born uses more food, more water, more land, more fossil fuels, more trees and produces more rubbish, more pollution, more greenhouse gases, and adds to the problem of over-population.”
While most parents view their children as the ultimate miracle of nature, Toni seems to see them as a sinister threat to the future.
“When I tell people why I don’t want children, they look at me as if I was planning to commit murder.
Ummm Toni, you already DID commit murder when you killed your unborn child in order to ’save the planet’!
My question to Toni and others who share her delusional beliefs is this, If you do not have children in order to save the planet, exactly who are you saving it for? Many people who try to live environmentally friendly lives do so in the belief that they will be leaving their children with a cleaner planet. If people refuse to have children as a means of saving the planet, there will be no one left to enjoy it!
