Disgrace: Military Demanding Return of Signing Bonus From Wounded Vets
If there has ever been a news story that had the power to unite Republicans and Democrats, this would certainly be it:
The U.S. Military is demanding that thousands of wounded service personnel give back signing bonuses because they are unable to serve out their commitments.
To get people to sign up, the military gives enlistment bonuses up to $30,000 in some cases.
Now men and women who have lost arms, legs, eyesight, hearing and can no longer serve are being ordered to pay some of that money back.
KDKA contacted Congressman Jason Altmire. He says he has proposed a bill that would guarantee soldiers receive full benefit of bonuses.
This is disgraceful on the part of the United States Armed Forces, and on the part of Congress for not already having a bill in place gauranteeing full payment of bonuses to wounded soldiers.

“because they are unable to serve out their commitments.” I think these wounded men and women now have a lifetime commitment of which their signing bonus doesn’t even begin to cover.
As a taxpayer, I want those men and women to get every penny they were promised upon enlistment. It’s a very small price to pay for their work.
