John Edwards Lacks Understanding of Presidential Powers
In his new ad, John Edwards proudly proclaims to Congress “if you don’t pass universal health care by July of 2009 — in six months — I’m going to use my power as president to take your health care away from you”
Unfortunately for Mr. Edwards, the President does not have authority to strip Congress of any benefits they are currently recieving.
Ironicially is attorneys like John Edwards who continue to sue doctors and hospitals for millions upon millions of dollars which keep the costs of medical care so inflated. If John Edwards and the other Democrats wish to make health care more accessible to the lower class, the first step is to cap malpractice suit payouts. If a doctor can purchase malpractice insurance for $20,000 per year instead of the $80,000 per year doctors in some States have to pay, they would be able to lower rates significantly, allowing health insurance companies to do the same.
