In Iraq Even Good News Is Bad News
Many conservatives have been asking recently, why hasn’t the mainstream media been reporting on the decreasing deaths in Iraq recently? From Right Wing News we have an article which finally reports the decreasing deaths in Iraq, but with a twist:
As violence falls in Iraq, cemetery workers feel the pinch
NAJAF, Iraq — At what’s believed to be the world’s largest cemetery, where Shiite Muslims aspire to be buried and millions already have been, business isn’t good.
A drop in violence around Iraq has cut burials in the huge Wadi al Salam cemetery here by at least one-third in the past six months, and that’s cut the pay of thousands of workers who make their living digging graves, washing corpses or selling burial shrouds.
Few people have a better sense of the death rate in Iraq .
“I always think of the increasing and decreasing of the dead,” said Sameer Shaaban, 23, one of more than 100 workers who specialize in ceremonially washing the corpses. “People want more and more money, and I am one of them, but most of the workers in this field don’t talk frankly, because they wish for more coffins, to earn more and more.”
Dhurgham Majed al Malik, 48, whose family has arranged burial services for generations, said that this spring, private cars and taxis with caskets lashed to their roofs arrived at a rate of 6,500 a month. Now it’s 4,000 or less, he said.
…”Certainly, when the number of dead increases I feel happy, like all workers in the graveyard,” said Basim Hameed , 30, a body washer. “This happiness comes from the increase in the amount of money we have.”
Death is something everyone must face, he noted. “My job demands death, and this is our fate, all of us.”
Those poor cemetery workers, something needs to be done. Maybe the United Nations can send them a few hundered million dollars in humanitarian aid to hold them over until the evil United States pulls their soldiers out of the region and the death count goes back up.

I have no interest in this story, whatsoever.
I am tracking back from Michelle Malkin’s blog. This ridiculous, superstitious and ignorant woman, just like most of you clowns, has been insulting me, a military family member, since this war started.
Some woman, “Goodwin,” wrote into my local paper about the resolution condemning Turkey for genocide and the effect it would have on the troops. She said the Democrats should practice the “diplomacy” they are so fond of.
Goodwin is just your typical ignorant/delusional right-wing hick. “Diplomacy” as well as “good governance” and the “Bush administration” has nothing to do with the truth or reality. These kooks think they can just pick and choose the history that suits them - they have no use for it except to inflate their own self-worth or to nurse their own grievances.
It is absurd that ANYONE would even consider electing Republicans. They don’t read the paper, they only see what they want to see, all Iraqis killed are TERRORISTS, it would be irresponsible to pay for this war – better to pass the buck off to the grandchildren, new recruits can get the desert training they need in Iraq – IN COMBAT, troops don’t need body armor – it’s TOO HEAVY (Michelle Malkin), there is no shortage of these brave Republicans willing to fight this war they started, that is why the Army has lowered it’s standards AGAIN, taking violent criminals, and helicopter gunships don’t need guns. Petraeus “wrote the book” on counterinsurgency, which calls for as many troops to occupy Baghdad as are in the entire country, but it would be treasonous to call him on it. The glowing success in Fallujah, it turns out, is due to MARTIAL LAW, the city is under 24-hour lockdown, surrounded by berms and barbed wire, vehicles are banned and residents had to submit to fingerprints and retina scans to get ID cards that let them stay. How long can they keep this up after the troops pull out? Osama bin Laden, meanwhile, is not off in a cave somewhere plotting more attacks; he is “impotent.”
These backwards, backwoods throwbacks can even say with absolute certainly that global warming is a hoax while their own military leaders quietly go about discussing the need for new policies that would “oblige intergovernmental cooperation” by future U.S. administrations, knowing that environmental stresses may severely damage economies, destabilize political systems and upend millions of lives, causing mass migrations across international borders, including our own.
These hicks are a disgrace to this country.
Karen,
As a rule I delete all comments left by readers whose sole purpose of commenting seems to be name calling (even though yours seems to be as well.) I have decided to allow your comment to be shown though, and for a few reasons. For starters you refrained from using profanity which is more than I can say for the majority of your peers who visit my blog.
Secondly because you have touched on a subject that I had been meaning to write about but have not had the chance to.. and that is the condemnation of Turkey. While you and many like you will argue that Republicans are attempting to change history by voting against this measure, you must first ask yourself wether it is Congress’ place to create history either. What happened 90years ago to the Armenians was certainly a tragedy, but should we allow that to affect our relationship with one of our allies 4 generations later? Bill Clinton even realized this when Dennis Hastert introduced similar legislation many years ago, Clinton asked him to withdraw the measure.
Lastly I would like to pint out that your comment started off by accusing Michelle Malkin and “most of us clowns” of insulting you, “a military family member”, however you do not cite one instance in which I ever remarked negatively about the family of military members.
For the record however, I would like to make it known that I do not consider the family members of military members off limits to commenting on. The fact that one of your loved ones serves in the United States Armed Forces does not in and of itself obsolve you from criticism once you choose to speak politically on military matters. It is General Petreaus’ job to speak politically on military matters and he was attacked by liberal activits and even politicans as being a liar and puppet for the Bush administration. If a General currently serving in our military is fair game for negative comments, certainly you are as well!
