Media Matters Proving to Be Great Puppet Masters
This week I wrote about Media Matters and their attacks on Bill O’Reilly, in which they took his quotes out of context in order to make it appear they were racist remarks. They now have gone after Rush Limbaugh in a similar fashion, and by doing so they prove to me one thing; most liberals do not have a mind of their own!
Recently Rush Limbaugh used the term ‘phony soldiers’ on his show while speaking with a caller about pulling out of Iraq. Media Matters reported on this under the headline Limbaugh: Service members who support U.S. withdrawal are “phony soldiers”. Here is what was said:
“No, it’s not, and what’s really funny is, they never talk to real soldiers. They like to pull these soldiers that come up out of the blue and talk to the media.” Limbaugh interjected, “The phony soldiers.”
At issue here is what Limbaugh was referring to when he used the term ‘phony soldiers’. Media Matters assumes Limbaugh is stating that any soldier who disagrees with President Bush’s policies in Iraq is a phony soldier. Well most people are aware what happened when you assume, but many on the left do not seem to care. They have taken this assumption and turned it into fact. This would be understandable, even expected, if it was only the leftist bloggers who were doing it, it becomes completely unacceptable when members of Congress treat this propaganda as fact and present it on the House Floor!
On September 27, several members of Congress denounced Rush Limbaugh for, as Media Matters for America documented, calling service members who advocate U.S. withdrawal from Iraq “phony soldiers” on the September 26 broadcast of his nationally syndicated radio show. Reps. Frank Pallone (D-NJ) and Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) made speeches on the House floor responding to Limbaugh; Sen. Jim Webb (D-VA) made his comments on the September 27 edition of MSNBC’s Countdown with Keith Olbermann; and Reps. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) and Patrick J. Murphy (D-PA) issued statements denouncing Limbaugh’s comments.
As media Matters pulls the strings, the puppets in the Democratic party dance for them. If you were to ask those who issued statements denouncing Limbaugh’s comments, exactly what it was they were denouncing, they will tell you that Rush called service members who support U.S. withdrawal ‘phony soldiers’. There is only one minor problem, those words never left his mouth!
Rush did use the term phony soldier on his show, however what he most likely was referring to were ’soldiers’ like Jessie MacBeth. There have been several instances where ’soldiers’ have been paraded in front of the media, telling of the atrocities they committed while in Iraq, only to find out later that these people never actually served. These are the ‘phony soldiers’ Rush was referring to. At no time did he or the caller say that any soldier who believes we should pull out of Iraq is a phony soldier!
It’s bad enough when opinion columnists and liberal bloggers buy into Media Matters propaganda, but when members of Congress do as well, and do so on the floor of the House, it becomes much worse. Under normal circumstances, elected officials would be expected to do at least a little due diligence prior to condemning an action they read about on the internet. In this day and age, all that is expected of them is to dance when their string gets pulled.
