Did John Edwards Really Say That?
Ever hear something that sounding so absurd you had to question wether or not you actually heard it? I had such a moment when watching clips of the Democratic debate on YouTube before as John Edwards states he did not wish to impose on his children what he felt was right. Yes he actually said that it was not his place to teach his children about what is right (and presumably what is wrong).
In response to a question of whether he would be comfortable having a fairy tale read to his second-grader that ends with two men kissing and living happily ever after, Edwards had this to say: “… I don’t want to make that decision on behalf of my children. I want my children to be able to make that decision on behalf of themselves, and I want them to be exposed to all the information, even in (chuckling), what did you say, second grade? Well, second grade might be a little tough, but even in second grade, to be exposed to all those possibilities. Because I don’t want to impose my view – nobody made me God – I don’t get to decide on behalf of my family and my children. … I don’t get to impose on them what it is that I believe is right.”
Hey John, that is exactly what a parent is supposed to do, impose on their children what they believe is right. Presumably John Edwards believes that it is the governments job to teach his children the difference between right and wrong, but I doubt Americans will agree with him.
Edwards expects us to believe that although he lacks the gumption to make decisions with regards to what is right for his family, he will be able to make those decision on behalf of 300 million Americans.
I have written before regarding the pandering done by Democrats in this years debates, and it seems they are only getting worse. John Edwards is opposed to same sex marriage, but does not wish to irritate the LGBT crowd with an honest answer to the question asked of him. He chooses instead to embarrass himself by stating “I don’t get to decide on behalf of my family and my children”.
Well John if you can’t make decisions on what is best for your own children, I certainly would not want you making decisions on what is best for mine!
