Leftist Misguided View of Patriotism

Today in a diary over at the Daily Kos, one Kosack attempts to instill a feeling of patriotism in the reader by invoking Patrick Henry’s famous quote “I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!” From that point forward however, the diarist shows us exactly how out of touch he is with Patrick Henry’s beliefs, as well as the beliefs of other true patriots.

When Nathan Hale was captured by the British as he attempted to go behind enemy lines as a spy, he said, it is the duty of every good soldier to obey any order from his commander-in-chief. His last words were: “I regret that I have but one life to give for my country.”

Duvallbuck at the Daily Kos is more than willing to give his life, but not for his country. Here is how he wishes to die:
“I would rather die in a terrorist attack then allow the domestic surveillance of any citizen’s email, phone calls, medical records, library usage or financial transactions”
“I would rather die in a terrorist attack then forsake the Geneva conventions in the name of our nation.”
“I would rather die in a terrorist attack then give up anyone’s right of habeas corpus”
“I would rather die in a terrorist attack then have a CIA operative outed ”

I can only assume based on the ramblings of liberal insanity, the author of this diary wishes he could have been in the World Trade Center on Septemeber 11. After all, prior to being attacked on 9/11 our country did not have surveilance in place monitoring calls between suspected terrorists abroad and individuals residing in America. Obviously no Geneva convention provision could have been violated prior to that date, because our country was not at war.

Luckily for the rest of us, those will at least a portion of our sanity left anyway, the author of this diary is not in charge of our country, and President Bush has taken the necessary steps to prevent another terrorist attack on American soil.

  1. I’m glad he wants to die in a terrorist attack. I, however, do not. Maybe we could swap his life for one of those Koreans being held by the Taliban? He’ll be happy to die a martyr - and we won’t have read his drivel again. :-)
