Democrats Upset With Court Ruling Ending Racial Preferences

I wrote earlier today about the Supreme Court ruling rejecting race based admissions, and how that ruling affected Brown v. Board of Education. Apparently, as I was writing that article, the Democrats were having a debate, condemning the notion that race should not be factored into school admissions.

The associated Press reported tonight that Democrats are bashing the court diversity ruling. Apparently they feel that it is OK to grant someone special favors solely because of the color of their skin… as long as they have the right color skin.

Justice John Roberts stated in the majority opinion of today’s ruling “The way to stop discrimination on the basis of race is to stop discriminating on the basis of race”. Is this concept that difficult for people to understand? When I posted an article earlier this week regarding Nikita Rau who was denied admission to a high school because she was a minority, I receive this response:
” I’d like to see some numbers regarding the situation you say Nikita faced. If it is an isolated incident, then a case by case evaluation system may be needed. Which is a quick fix, but what’s wrong with that? But undoing the entire affirmative action program is a bit extreme.”

The problem is, this is not an “isolated” incident, at least not in the sense of ethnic makeup determining school acceptance, or even job acceptance for that matter. What made that case an isolated incident was that it was a minority who was affected by poor legislation. In that respect the liberal answer is, take it on a case by case basis.

Democrats can argue against discrimination and prejudice until they are blue in the face, the fact remains however, they are only against certain forms of discrimination. Todays decision overturned an appellate court ruling which stated the district “has a compelling interest in securing the educational and social benefits of racial (and ethnic) diversity.”

One has to wonder though, how is telling a white student she needs to earn a higher grade than a minority on a test in order to receive the same result benefitting diversity? What that does is promote resentment, and eventually hatred. When you deny a person what they have earned because they have the wrong color skin, whatever color their skin may be, you are promoting racism, not ending it.

Ironically, the debate which occurred today was at Howard University, which is a predominantly black college. In fact, the college is almost 90% black, however no piece of legislation nor court order was ever passed down which would force the school to “diversify”. Noone will ever question the racial “diversity” at Howard University of course, but it is something to think about when you consider the Democrats argument that a white student should be forced to travel half an hour to school instead of walking down the block…. simply because she is white.

Affirmative action is inherently wrong because it defines people by their race. Regardless of what that persons race may be, once you define them by their race you are promoting racism, prejudice, and resentment.

Racial preference is racial preference, wether you favor whites, black, Hispanics, Asians, native Americans it doesn’t matter. Once you give one group more leniency than the other you are declaring that all men are NOT created equal! And that is the reason for todays court ruling.
