Playing the Blame Game

Earlier this morning I made a brief mention of the JFK terrorist plot foiled over the weekend, stating I didnt wish to go into more detail at the risk of politicizing it. Unfortunately I was away this weekend, so I was unaware that others do not share my belief of simply praising the men and women who helped avert this potential disaster, without using it for your own political benefit (especially if you played no part in foiling the plot). Here is the problem with politicians these days, both on the left and the right, our FBI has a huge success over the weekend literally saving thousands of lives and this is what the chairman of the House Appropriations Defense Subcommittee has to say:

“Our presence in Iraq, our occupation of Iraq gives these people the inspiration”

This is a disgraceful attempt by John Murtha to shift attention from the commendable job the FBI and NYPD did, and avert America’s attention back to the war in Iraq. Does Mr. Murtha honestly believe that if we would have pulled our troops out of Iraq last year this plot would never have been formed? What about the attacks of September 11, was it our war in Iraq that “inspired them”? How about the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, what was their inspiration?

The inspiration behind these attacks, or attempted attacks appear to be the same in all instances. Their inspiration is rooted in a hatred for American culture, most notably in the freedom of religion our country was founded on. Radical Muslims believe they are waging a holy battle, one which anyone who does not follow their strict religous beliefs is considered an enemy.
