The Left Criticizing Supreme Court Decision

Last week the Supreme Court voted 5 to 4 to uphold a ban on partial birth abortion. In what was a very controversial decision, the Supreme Court ruled the bill which was passed by Congress and signed into law by the President did not violate a woman’s “constitutional right” to an abortion. Pro-lifers for the most part see this verdict for what it is, a moral victory in the fight against abortion. It is estimated that less than 2% of abortions occurring in the U.S. will be affected by this verdict. Those who consider themselves to be pro-choice are not happy with this decision, with cries of violating women’s rights.

The most ridiculous argument I have seen to this date has come from Beth Quinn at Record Online. The title of her article “So girls, did you notice you were raped last week?” Mrs. Quinn starts off her article with this inflammatory statement:

The five boy justices on the Supreme Court who voted to take away our reproductive freedom last week were treating us like silly girls who can’t be trusted to make our own decisions.

There are several things in this tiny paragraph which either upset me, or downright offend me. For starters the author who made a reference to girls being raped in the title of her article, makes reference to the fact that the Justices who voted in favor were “boys”. The author is implying that by making this ruling, “the five boy justices” are raping women.

The term reproductive freedom rears its ugly head into this paragraph as well. Mrs. Quinn ignorantly states the Supreme Court has taken away the reproductive freedom of women in this country by preventing them from performing a certain type of abortion. The term reproductive freedom to me would mean, women are free to reproduce. How is preventing doctors from partially extracting a baby from the mothers womb, then sucking its brains out before crushing its skull in any way taking away reproductive rights? Note to author, in order to “reproduce”, and therefore have reproductive freedom, your baby must be born.

Lets see what else Mrs. Quinn has to say:

I can hear the mutterers now, claiming I have no respect for these Supreme Court justices. You’re right, mutterers! I don’t. You know why? They have no respect for me — or any other woman in this nation. We’re not morons, you know. We’re grown-ups. We even get to vote! For now, anyway.

Mrs. Quinn believes she is a “grown-up”, while at the same time crying like a baby (one who was allowed to be born anyway) because she didn’t get her way. News flash Mrs. Quinn, the Supreme Court which you say took away your “rights” is the same body of Government which granted you those rights in the first place! If it had not been for the Supreme Court, it would be up to the States to decide wether or not to allow abortions.

As I had noted in my previous article, Justice Berger in his concurring opinion for Roe V Wade wrote “Plainly, the Court today rejects any claim that the Constitution requires abortions on demand”.

Mrs. Quinn obviously does not concur with that statement.
