Government Education at its Worst
There are many Americans who feel the Government should not be involved in our children’s education, and the Department of Education should be abolished. Every once in a while I will read an article which reminds me exactly how bad Government education really is. The Seattle Times has an article today titled “Putting politics ahead of kids”, and gives a clear indicator of what our Government feels its role in education is.
White people, you’re privileged, and guilty, guilty, guilty of oppressing disadvantaged minorities. Denial only makes things worse.
This is the message currently emanating from the Seattle School District. Never mind that this dubious construct undercuts needed emphasis on minority student achievement.
District officials this month are sending students from four high schools to an annual “White Privilege Conference” in Colorado. The conference is billed as an “opportunity to examine and explore difficult issues related to white privilege, white supremacy and oppression” — “a challenging, empowering and educational experience.”
What’s the thinking behind this theory of white privilege? For the 2006 conference, a paper by Tobin Miller Shearer (who is white) argued that white people could not enter the kingdom of God unless they confronted the way racism and white privilege shaped their lives and spirituality. He maintained that white people tend to be far too individualistic and need to acknowledge their membership in a group that is unavoidably racist.
For starters, I would like to know where the ACLU is in this matter. This is a conference which is endorsed by a public school referring to enterring the kingdom of God. If this conference told students they could not enter the kingdom of God if they were homosexuals, I can promise at least a dozen civil rights groups would be filing lawsuits. As most are aware however, the ACLU only believe in the “wall of seperation” when it suits their agenda.
John Hawkins at Right Wing News has more to say:
All people love to avoid blame for their own failure, but because of all the race hucksters out there on the left, from the NAACP to Jesse Jackson to Al Sharpton, black victimhood has been elevated to cultlike status.
The message is, “It’s not your fault that you’re a single mother with 3 kids by 3 different dads. It’s not your fault you quit high school. It’s not your fault that you can only get a job working at a minimum wage because you’re not qualified for anything else. It’s just the white man keeping you down.”
So, why aren’t black Americans doing as well as some other racial groups percentage wise in this country? Two main reasons. Black Americans have a staggeringly high rate of out-of-wedlock births and because practically from birth, black Americans are taught that they’re victims and it’s not their fault if they don’t succeed. If you think the deck is stacked against you, you don’t try as hard and if you fail, you tend to give up, instead of standing up, dusting yourself off, and taking another crack at it.
Rather than the government holding conferences for minority children in order to convey the message that they are not victims, they chose to hold a conference for white children conveying the message they may be victimizers. This sort of liberal thinking is the reason the black race allows people like Al Sharpton to lead them.
